Rogues Bard - Poetry - Heartprint (Porthmeor)
HEARTPRINT. (PORTHMEOR)
I first walked this beach as a child.
I remember Acker Bilk was in the charts
Playing “Stranger On The Shore”
And I spent my sunsets
Building sandcastles over rocks
And waiting for The Bully
To come and kick them down
He never did.
Pat Boone was playing also,
Something romantic
About heartache and love letters in the sand
And I fell in love with the girl with the golden hair
(She didn’t exist)
It lasted a fortnight the holiday
And I left my heart print in the sands.
Thirty years later I met her
The girl with the golden hair.
(She didn’t exist)
But it took me a year to find out
And when I returned
The heart print had gone.
Pat Boone has a lot to answer for
