Rogues Bard - Poetry - Last Bus To Lands End
LAST BUS TO LANDS END.
I thought of you tonight..
The shelter was illuminated
As the harbours revolving light
Intermittently pierced the darkness
Taunting long lost souls
(Now you see me .. now you don’t)
(Now you see me.. now you don’t)
And the wind blew from the east
Sending icy swathes of rain
To scythe across the wasted beaches
For a moment .. rabbit like
I was caught startled in the arc
Of the headlamps glare…
Then I watched the receding tail lights
As the last bus to land end departed
Empty.
Somewhere in the dark the wind is tugging
At the chains as empty vessels jig and strain
At anchor .. their rigging
Sending stark metallic messages
To call across the void like the promises
Of future dreams to the romantic.
Or .. to the cynical .. a string of hollow cans
Stretched out in warning.
And you are a thousand miles away..
The world is full of people
But the last bus to Lands End departed
Empty.
And We are alone. We are all alone
Everyone .. forever..
And the light keeps spinning round ..
(Now you see me.. Now you don’t)
(Now you see me .. now you don’t)
