Rogues Bard - Songs - Keep Off The Grass
KEEP OFF THE GRASS
In a darkened attic room she plays her daughter favourite tune
Packing clothes in cardboard boxes lined with fashion magazines
A battered box of photographs a bear called Joe, a false eyelash
A “Babyshambles” poster signed “With Love To Sally Anne”
She was no pop star she was no Kate Moss
She liked baked beans and candyfloss
They found her body stiff and blue
With a needle in her hand
Next to a painted warning stating
“Please Keep Off The Grass”
But it came a year to late for Sally Anne
She was into boys and movie stars ,had barely started wearing bra’s
She hoped to be a model but her Grannie wasn’t sure
A teenage girl trying to be cool, playing Hookey from her school
The Junkie Mail dealer sold her packets by the score.
A broken teacher told the class “Sally won’t be coming back”
An empty desk an empty chair, a lesson sadly learnt
They buried her on a Saturday, with a bear called Joe for company
The paper said her mother hoped her death was not in vain.
So to all you smug Lotharios, stuffing powder up your nose
Without you the Junkie dealer would have no deals to do.
Anaesthetised by heroine, or smoking lines of crack cocaine
You sold the soul of Sally Anne .. Her death was down to you.
