Rogues Bard - Songs - Star Gazey Eyes

STAR GAZEY EYES

I remember the night that we first met
And stole our first kiss at the bar.
We walked home together with star gazey eyes
And listened to Dylan till dawn broke the skies
I remember the laughter the warmth of your smile
And later we both went to bed for a while
And then we woke up with star gazey eyes
And when you went home I wrote you a song.

CHORUS.
I was too old to be wearing my heart on my sleeve
You were too young to be ruined by love.
We walked on the beach the seagulls were crying
The stars were inscribing our names on the heavens above.
You laughed at my clowning you thought I was waving
But I knew I was drowning in love…

We thought we were soul mates In truth we were cell mates
Too frightened to fight or the right to be free
Now we meet in the street you stare at your shoes
You wont look in my eyes are you scared you’ve got something to lose ? …………

CHORUS.

Was it all an illusion life’s great confusion
Love is always too far from my grasp
I wake with your name on the tip of my tongue
And pretend I’m pretending to be….The man writing this song.

To tell you the truth I’m never quite sure If I’m in love or just acting the fool
But If your somewhere out there Look up to the stars.
There’s more soul in the skies than the mud on the soul of your shoes...

REPEAT CHORUS

Are you the girl that I kissed at the bar ?
Were we pretending our love all along ?
Are the sunglasses I’m wearing just a disguise
Or are they hiding the pain in my eyes
As I’m singing this song.

Are they hiding the pain in my eyes
As I‘m singing this song
As I‘m singing this song …
As I‘m singing this song …
